(super)hero au
Sep. 9th, 2021 01:22 amSpecific details may be altered depending on the thread, but basically:
- Dorne is one of those tiny countries that attracts lots of glamorous expats. Think Monaco crossed with Singapore crossed with Madrid. There's a lot of wealth being thrown around, reasonably progressive politics, and people from virtually every ethnic background (particularly Asian and Latinx).
- The Martells are the Dornish equivalent of old money, and they're generally very involved in local politics and the economy.
- Oberyn is a playboy's playboy, and while he loves his home he's very much a world traveler. Three of his eight daughters are the product of international affairs; Nym is one of them (her mother being Chinese).
- The other five were born of his not-technically-wife, Ellaria Sand, and all eight girls now use her surname since, being technically illegitimate, they can't use their father's.
- Oberyn and Ellaria have, in addition to vacation residences around the world and the Martell compound in Dorne, flats in London and New York City. The younger four girls are still in school (an English boarding school with international students) and the older four come and go as they please.
- Oh, and in addition to being wealthy and socially significant, Oberyn happens to moonlight as a vigilante hero (the Red Viper). He would never push his daughters to follow him, but Obara, Nym, Sarella, and Tyene have all done (they're collectively known as the Sand Snakes).
- Nym herself is skilled with daggers and staffs, but her trademark is her whip.
- They're definitely not the no-killing kinds of heroes, they do what they have to, but they're conscientious. They're also aggressively independent, working flawlessly with each other but warily with most other hero types and not at all with non-Dornish governments if they can help it.
- Between her accent, her affinity for leather, and her weapon (which sadly doesn't glow) even characters familiar with the Defenders will be able to tell her apart from her associated doppelganger.
